Bonjour !
Yes , it's the other name for Road america .  This track is also very suitable for marble racing !  :P

You have a shiftR joker with GTP class . GTO car lost his round and stay in place if the wooden marble goes off track... :partytime:<p>

Robert !  :rotfl:   but 24h Le Mans were done 2 times ( indoor )...

At home with a cold , I'm collecting facts about road america . The most interessant is that the circuit is the same since 1955 . So we can compare lap times through the years and see who's the fastest    I add Q index for qualif time , otherwise it's best lap during the race .  I don't use the Indy car chicane after the carousel in this list .

CART was so badass at Road America. They had some of the best races there.

Yes , add a roof on the 917-30 and it could be a strong contender in 80's IMSA series !   :yikes:

CART in the mid 90s was truly a golden era for American open-wheel racing. The cars were super fast and all the greats (greats during my life) were still running. Arie Lyendyke's record at Indy - 236.xxx miles an hour average over 4 laps in qualifying  :o  Mario and Michael racing together. Emerson Fittipaldi was still running till Greg Moore put him into the wall at The US500 at Michigan on Lap1 in Turn1 breaking his back ending his career. Greg Moore was to die 4 years later in 1999 at the California Speedway on Halloween. I was there. It was a bummer. The cars were hitting 260+ mph on the straights.

Sorry for the downer ending.

Absolutely. Early 90s IndyCar/mid/late 90s CART was great. There were sadly a few fatal accidents, as you mentioned Greg Moore. I was watching that race live on TV...

Back then Eurosport TV broadcasted most IndyCar and NASCAR races, so there was also a rising European fanbase. Those summer sundays were great with many races shown live. Back then played games like NASCAR Racing but more IndyCar Racing and later IndyCar Racing 2/CART Racing. On a sidenote Elkhart Lake was my favorite track, and back in 1999 or 2000 I beat Leandro Schmidt's (GPL alien) WR there for ICR2.

But IndyCar have done a great job recently with the format and going back to those old school tracks. And Road America ofcourse is the jewel in the crown.

To be pedantic that would be a Reynard 2KI. Back then CART teams used to be able to buy different chassis, not like todays generic Dallara DW12

Some pics taken from my visit to Road america in 2009 for the SCCA runoffs...  Total of 25 pics , 2 pics per day .

With more than 700 racing cars , we find them everywhere inside the circuit , the paddock is not big enough .

Runoffs are the finale of the season . All the best drivers in regionals meets here .
Sometimes they call it " the olympics in motorsport" .

During the last week in September , autumn comes in Wisconsin .
