last night I had an uncontrollable urge to consume bratwurst w/mustard & saurkraut , with some great beer

ended up surfing thru a lot of old vintage F1 footage on youtube...Fangio, good lord that guy looks so serene when he's driving LOL

.....now I have an uncontrollable urge to reinstall GPL & check it out again, it's been a few years

I remember back in the day, getting all my cars from a GPLEA website....I have no idea where to begin now though!!

any tips/must have content?

thx!!

so logically, bratwurst + beer + sausage + mustard = craving for GPL

Your making me hungry.

I just reinstalled GPL about a month and a half ago, with the excellent help of David Fletcher, here is what he sent me and it worked perfectly.

"Tom, it never hurts to start with a fresh install of GPL. If you do, I'd highly recommend that you start by using Bernd Nowak's excellent GPL Installer. It greatly simplifies the install process, and when completed you'll have a solid '67 installation with all the patches, and the cars replaced with the excellent GPLEA cars. You can get the installer here:

http://gplps.org/wb/...l-installer.php

Next, I would recommend you install Nigel Pattinson's new D3D and OpenGL rasterizers, as with their addition of 32-bit graphics, they really makes GPL look nice. Plus, I've seen many instances where on the latest generation of pc's and video cards, it's almost a requirement. But you can certainly try it with the original Papy D3D and OpenGL rasterizers first, as they are installed with Bernd's installer. As for Nigels V2 rasterizers, you can find them here:

http://gplmz.bcsims....39;s rasterizer

Even if you don't install the rasterizer, that thread also has the latest version of GEM, also.

Next, install GEM & IGOR (IGOR is the race client we use):

http://gem.ebi-servi.../downloads.html

And although we don't use it, you may want to install VROC at this time also:

http://www.vroc.net/

Assuming everything is working okay, you can then proceed to install the '65, '66, and '69 mods. You can find links to them (along with many of the essential links for GPL) at Stu Boyle's excellent GPLLinks:

http://www.gpllinks.org/

Bear in mind that patches have been made for the '65 and '66 mods that you should install once you've installed those mods. Look here for the '65 patch:

http://gplmz.bcsims....39;s rasterizer

And here for the '66 patch:

http://gplmz.bcsims....39;s rasterizer

I know this all sounds like a lot of work, but trust me it really doesn't take that long, and you'll have a fully functional, rock-solid GPL installation when you're done. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to ask."

There are lots of guy's around here that know much more than I do about this stuff, but the above worked great for me.

Good luck and hope to see you on the track.

I have a quick, and I hope, simple question. The GPL installer instructions that I downloaded (http://gplps.org/wb/...l-installer.php) are in this file: GPL Easy Installation Guide_ENG_v1.1.7z. I don't know how to open it or what program I should use to read it.  Help!

TIA.

Bob Higdon

P.S.  Never mind.  I think I discovered what a 7z file extension is.  But I may not be out of the woods entirely.  Sigh.

(Five minutes later)

Got it! :)

This reminds me, I need to finish trying to get my install working. Problem is GTL keeps me so busy I forget I have it.
