Kyalami Pit Wall

27 February 2017 - 09:49 AM

Yes, I didn't have the pit wall. I didn't think there was any rule regarding this. If this is a league geared towards realism, I shouldn't have to have it or drive as if I do.

I didn't try to take any advantage of it's absence. Roberto was slow off the line. I hesitated for a moment but thought it would be safer to move right and get back on the throttle so I didn't get rear ended or Frank didn't get rear ended slowing for me. If I had the pitwall I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a crash with Roberto's slow start. I wouldn't have hit him but what might have happened behind me may have been a lot different.

I also had little inclination to try to pass Roberto on lap 1. But with a Brabham on my tail and little room to maneuver I did what I thought was least likely to result in a crash. Luckily all the drivers I started near including myself, showed some good caution and patience. Thanks guys.

I'll rebuild my pit wall but I'd prefer we not have to use it or act as if it's there. As Bruce mentioned, it wasn't there in 1967 and I think it makes the start more dangerous. UKGPL's grid forces the cars starting on the right to move left or hit the wall. I could have easily taken out Pelle and Bob recently because of that damn wall.

Thanks a lot Doni and Mick! I can only imagine what you must have been thinking.

Starting at the back didn't help any. I thought about pulling into the pits but I had cars behind me. I could have done that if I started on the right. :(

I want Mick to pay for any damage to our car.

Nice job Colin and Frank. I'm glad to somebody was thinking.

Congrats Rob, Michiel, and Gerd! Nice job. It looks like Gerd was very strong late in the race.

It's a shame Colin didn't race. It appears Doni missed it too. :(

I screwed up that one. I didn't get a good lap on my first stint so I loaded less for fuel a shorter second stint. A couple cambers showed they could use adjustment and I made 2,3, and 4th gear longer for the race. However, I forgot to set the fuel to 22 gallons/83 liters, so I started the race with 4 gallons/15 liters. No wonder I thought Tristan was slow early in the race. I didn't realize it until lap 7 and my engine starts misfiring. I thought I had damaged it, but I quickly realize I'm running out of fuel. Luckily it's late in the lap. I keep the pitstop patch loaded just for the possibility of fuel miscalculations. This wasn't a miscalculation just a stupid error.

To make matters worse my last stint in Q was 4 gallons instead of the 6 it takes me to get my tires fully heated. So 5 pit stops and never getting my tires heated correctly makes for a crappy race. I did get to see most of the cars though. :)

I brushed the wall once coming out the last turn. That made me think I should retire before I damage the car, but then I figured Iestyn won't mind spending a few coins to let me get some racing action. I gambled and thought I could finish without too much damage but worried the whole time might wreck or trash the engine.

Not much to gain from attrition but I did salvage a few points and finished without damage so we gained a few coins.

I wish I hadn't screwed up. I would have liked to see if I could keep up with Tristan.
