Hi All,
As part of a discussion on the AWR forum we were discussing tracks for next season and it was bought to my attention by Rob that next year is also the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season.

Not trying to put the TSG out of a job but....

Why don't we run all of the original Papy tracks to commemorate this?

Yes, I know Rouen wasn't one of the original tracks but it would be nice to run the full Papy season as an on-line event in chronological order.

The real season only covered 11 events so we would still need some fill in tracks to make it up to our normal season. Perhaps the none championship races thrown in to bring it up to the 16 events we normally run?

There were 6 none championship races in 1967 including the "BRDC International Trophy" at Silverstone. As Silverstone was already on the 1967 F1 calender we could drop that and just run the others assuming none are known disco queens. This would bring us back to our normal season of 16 races.

36fps or 60fps, It's up to you.

I know we have run a lot of the tracks already in the past few seasons but I still think it would be a great idea.

Asbestos underpants at the ready so flame away. :)

Well, no reason to fix my connection, I'll be sitting out that season.

So that's a resounding "No" from Eric then...

I believe that I put forward this season format to Bo some time ago but not with the relevance of our races being the 50th anniversary of that particular season.  Realizing this, it does seem a good idea to me.  Bo was not all that enthusiastic about my initial approach thinking, as I recall, that members would be bored running all those old Papy originals.  He may change his tune for S20.

Normally I would hate that idea. One of the things I like most about oAo is its use of non-original tracks.

For a 50th anniversary, however, I could accept it. Don't count me in the yes column, but I'll go with the majority (or rather Bo, since he has final say) on this issue.

Good idea John. We could add some great add-ons (and 1967 non-championship races), like Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Syracuse among others...

I'd suggest to run the originals at 60fps, and add-ons always at 36fps, for reliability.

Well, A more positive response than I expected. I agree that one of the attractions of a normal season is getting to try different tracks and on a season by season basis I think the TSG have a good history of including just the right amount of original tracks, so in any other year I wouldn't like to see that change and this is just a 1 off suggestion. (Unless we are all still firing up GPL in another 50 years, then "Watch this space").

It might even with the right exposure encourage a few of the newer GPL drivers to give oAo a go (Probably wishful thinking). I think most start off learning at least 50% of the original tracks and with the right graphics updates the originals can look really good but in their base form can be handled by almost any PC. I think Robert's suggestion that 60fps for originals with a move to 36fps for the add on tracks is a good idea as well, anything to try to avoid the issues some of us have had this year.

It would be a shame for such a long running league not to mark the 50th Anniversary of the 1967 season somehow, we won't get another chance.

Obviously few of you have clicked on the Link "TSG" or Track Selection Group....  the tracks we use are determined by Claudio and his band of merry volunteers ~   yes, i might have final "say" but other than a recommendation or request to 'not' use a specific track, for the most (98%)   its out of my hands ~ as for the idea ~  i like it  :)

I remember running the 40th Anniversary season and I love to see something similar. Only problem I have with running it as a oAo season is that I'd like to see it run as close to the original as possible ie full distance race.

That and that I prefer addon tracks as I'm usually quicker on them than the originals, but that argument doesn't really count does it? ;-)

It's actually been quite a while since I've raced the original circuits - sounds like a good idea. :)
