Here are some photos from my visit to the Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas, last month. Sorry: no pics of oil derricks. I spent the entire time in the Chaparral Gallery with a huge grin on my face. The first photo is me next to the 2E, the favorite car of Jim Hall and myself. The next photo I'm behind the 2F; you can see the 2D in the background. The third picture is the 2D in its separate display room. In the last picture you can see me sitting in a 2E ... well, not the real one, though fiberglass like the real one and with a third pedal that moves the rear wing. A very tight squeeze, and I'm not a big guy. Yes, I made motor sounds. :gpler:   :prop:

I have more if anyone is interested.

To say that I'm filled with envy is a gross understatement, Jimmy.  Good on ya!  :)

I've always been a HUGE fan of the Texas road runners and Jim Hall.  Saw him just pip Brucie for the win at the '65 Canadian GP at Mosport.  Talk about high drama!  And just the year prior, he'd busted his arm in a flip over the barriers at this very circuit.

Nice pictures Jim. It's hard to believe someone like Jim Hall could come from a hellhole like Midland. I haven't been there in more than 20 years. If I ever have to pass through there again, I should stop at the museum too.

Thanks for the pictures Jim.

"Hellhole" is pretty accurate, Greg. You have to drive a long way to get to anything that you could call "scenic." Fortunately the museum interior has plenty to see. Here's a photo of what they call the "2" and I thought was the 2C. I've attached a photo of the 2H which got changed quite a bit at John Surtees' insistence. It still has some really interesting aero features, esp. on the rear deck. There was also a GM Corvette prototype with no museum signs around it. I think the exhibit is still in progress. It's a GS-II. Unfortunately I didn't get any good photos of the 2J, though you can see it in the back of the photo that includes a lot of the gallery.
I'm very jealous of Donnie who saw him at Mosport.

Great stuff, JC!  More?  Keep 'em comin'!  :)

Here's a few snaps I took from the dim & distance past with my little Kodak box Brownie.  A camera useless for action shots but OK for the paddock.

Great shots, Donnie! Thanks for sharing those. I'd love to see more if you have any. I wonder if that Chaparral I is still around anywhere. Certainly not a word of it at the museum.
