Hi Guys,

I know a couple of you drive rFactor2. I have not driven rFactor2 in quite a few months. I just tried to log in to rFactor2 and I get a "Networking Error" message in red at Sign In. I have never had to Log In before. I did some research and I am confused. I have a lifetime subscription. Is it still valid? Do I have to run rFactor2 thru Steam now? WTF happened?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric, I have Rfactor 2 either (although I don't play it) But I just checked it out. In my case Steam is automatically starting and I have to log in there. Afterwards RF is firing up and downloading content.

Ok.... well now I feel stupid....
The rFactor2 launcher has icons on the left. All are greyed out except for the Home icon, it is red. I figured greyed out means they would not work. But out of frustration I tried anyway and the game launches. Arrgh!!
Why does a greyed out icon work? Bad UI design!

I installed mine pre-Steam intertwining. I guess mine will not update without going thru Steam. But I would have to reinstall thru Steam I think. Problem with that is I have a 40gig limit on my cell-based internet. Downloading large games is really not possible unless I activate my Verizon JetPack which is 4g for 15 gigs then unlimited at 3g speed.

Only issue is.... can I download new tracks and cars from Steam and have them install properly into my non-Steam install?

In order to protect themselves from theft the gaming companies have created mechanisms that get in the way of their customers access to the products they paid for.

rF2 is Steam only. Old installs will not work properly.   The new physics, cars, tracks, etc. will only work and download via Steam.

Your old lifetime sub is still valid. You'll probably need the log in info.

Cars, Tracks, and mods are installed by subscribing via the workshop page. They are automatically downloaded and installed, and updated as needed when the game starts up.

This is the Studio 397 forum page. You can ask questions there. They are very helpful.

Hope this helps.

btw,  Their versions of Sebring and LeMans are very good, with a really nice Nurburgring coming soon.  rF2 has become my go to sim for racing.

Thank you Eric. As a result of my short test I ended up driving round Rouen for one and a half hour in a Brabham and had a great time! Was really fun :)

Ok...

The lifetime subscription is not valid. Apparently it was only for online access. Studio 397, who took over the game, did away with it. So that was a waste of $85.
Supposedly I should have received an email saying that I had until January of 2017 to switch rFactor2 over to Steam for free. I never got one. I still have the same email address.
So now I have to pay again and it looks like pay for cars and such if I want the official stuff.
I don't know if I want to screw with it. I would have to download half this month and half next month because I only have 40 gigs a month and I need 15-ish for regular use.

I am really sick of the digital world. I would rather be without it.
