Despite my start wasn't great, still held on to the lead, which was key ofcourse. I was fairly confident pulling a little gap early race to Roy. But on lap 1 Roy touched the barrier at the chicane and a multicar wreck followed. A lot of damage and again 2 early innocent DNFs for both Ed and Michiel. Heartbreak guys Maybe we should race the normal Monaco next time, since this chicane always claims innocent victims, but I digress.
Drove well and cautiously, the tires got even too cold. Didn't hit a barrier, and took no risks with lapping. Took care of the engine and gearbox shortshifting. Then going into the final turn on Lap 16, while coasting, the engine went. Header failure. Very disappointing. Clearly my race to lose, had more than 30s gap, due to the Lap 1 crash. It seems all the good luck is catching up with me last 2 races. That said, was using 4 gears, and 3rd and 4th were on the edge redlining. I might have spiked the engine unwantedly, and unknowingly. Whole week never had a failure with these settings, and the engine ran very cool for the F312...
Stayed on the server to watch the race unfolding. Saw Enrique crashing in the chicane with Michael having nowhere to go. Both DNFs.
Congrats to Yannick keeping his head cool, and earning his first oAo D1 victory! Well deserved, and it was coming. Great job Also saw Roy driving a great recovery race back to P2 passing Iestyn late race. Well done guys!
edit: forgot to mention Frank's P4. After I had to retire, he made sure to get a finish. Greatest of teamdrivers, and BTW still leading the driver championship!
Good job finishers, commiserations to the retirements, in particular Ed and Michiel on Lap 1
