Topics I've Started

Nurburgring

25 May 2019 - 10:37 AM

I predicted a week ago to my team that just finishing here would guarantee a 6th place overall. But our D2 drivers did very well today with just three or four DNFs. I was fortunate to have overtaken Bo, my team captain, at the start --- either he let me by or his BRM really is a torque-pig --- and I stayed in 8th place for almost the entire race (Kayo overtook me at one point but crashed out a lap later). So will I take an 8th with no car damage at the Ring? You bet.

Video Problem In Gpl Launch

24 February 2019 - 01:52 PM

GPL for some reason is booting up in 4:3 (640x480) mode, all but cutting off my ability to punch the green and red boxes in the lower corners. When I get into the pit the "Options," "Car Setup," and "Pause" boxes are completely invisible to me. The graphics options page confirms that I'm running OpenGLv2 and that the resolution is 1920x1080 (and on the track the resolution is indeed fine). This started last night with a 23" Samsung monitor. I swapped to a 23" Toshiba and the problem went away. Now the Toshiba has decided to boot in 4:3 mode.

The computer is Dell Alienware, W10 and not a month old, with an Nvidia GTX 1070 card. The letterbox patches don't help. Every setting I look at --- Nvidia card, monitor, and GEM --- tells me I'm running 1920x1080 except when I launch GPL. Rebooting the box cures nothing. It doesn't matter whether I launch through GEM or via a desktop shortcut.

This has so far not been a game-stopping problem, but it is truly bothersome. Any help is, of course, gratefully appreciated.

Montjuic Fly-In

22 December 2018 - 07:36 AM

The first race of UKGPL's upcoming F1 season is at MontJuic. I was practicing yesterday with the Cooper. I've seen cars get airborne before, but for thirteen seconds?  :)   I think the best view of this is with TV2.

P.i.r. Race Reports

22 September 2018 - 10:17 AM

I knew I would do well here if I could stay out of trouble. I raced in Arturo's ovals league for two years or more way back in the day, so I'm used to these go-in-circles tracks and I like them. The car was fine and well set up. I had an acceptable qualifying time. And I stayed out of trouble. It was a good day at the office.

Tour De France

14 July 2018 - 11:05 PM

There aren't but sixteen people in the U.S. who give a single damn about the Tour, but for those of our drivers in the Netherlands I'd like to give a shout out to Dylan Groenewegen who, for the second day in a row, has kicked the young asses of the other young European maniacs who think nothing of going out for 150-mile bicycle rides every day for three weeks in a sporting competition that truly defies description. It. Is. Unreal.  :)
